The Citizen reports a net paid circulation of 33 004 with 30 566 copies sold in Tucson metropolitan area an annual rise of 4 300. It notes historical growth from 10 750 in 1936 and 933 when facilities merged in 1940 and claims entry into at least 8 800 more homes than any other daily newspaper.
A brutal blizzard blanketed the northern plains with six foot drifts and up to 10 inches of new snow in parts of Minnesota Nebraska and Wisconsin. Roads were blocked and bus service canceled as state highway crews battled whiteout conditions. A missing school bus was found after 17 hours near Sterling Colorado with the driver and students safe.

The Tucson rodeo parade drew tens of thousands despite a chilly dawn. St John’s Indian school repeated as top winner with three awards, including the grand sweepstakes, as dozens of ranches bands and costumed entries joined a showcase of Mexican heritage and frontier history.
The St. Louis Cardinals were sold for 3.75 million dollars to Anheuser Busch Inc of St. Louis. The sale was announced by the brewery and Fred M. Saigh who said he would leave baseball after receiving a 15 month prison sentence for income tax evasion.
The morning thermometer fell to 25 degrees twice in Tucson the coldest since January 1950 with a forecast low between 20 and 25 degrees tonight. Daytime high may reach 50 to 55 with less wind, and the weekend should bring clearer skies and warmer temperatures.
London reports Defense Minister says only a long 150 mile offensive could end the deadlock in Korea, but would need more troops than available. Field Marshal Lord Alexander, addressing U S correspondents, signals British government stance. Proposes a new line from Pyongyang to Wonsan about 100 miles long.
Deputy Joe Berume spotted a man on the parade route and, while watching the rodeo parade, rushed to the office for civil papers and served the rider a notice.
Fire destroyed a $10 000 four bedroom house at 6038 Fontana Ave Tucson leaving three children dead and neighbors aided by the Red Cross. In Korea U N warplanes struck from the front to the Manchurian frontier with B 29s dropping 220 000 pounds of bombs and Sabrejets claiming 16 MiG 15s destroyed and 発 18 damaged.
The 28th Fiesta de los Vaqueros kicks off with nearly 250 cowboys entering a four day world championship rodeo. Prize money totals approach 17 280 plus 10 000 from local sponsors and MGM film company 2100 added. Bareback riding led by Don Wilson opens the event amid high praise from Chamber of Commerce manager C Edgar Goyette.
Frank C. Brophy announced his resignation as state racing commissioner in Phoenix. Gov. Howard Pyle was expected to accept. Brophy protested the commission and condemned the racing law as ineffective enabling a gambling monopoly run by a few.
Tonight features a bridge tournament at the American Legion hall and a barbershop quartet parade at the university. Also on the program are a UA music recital, a rodeo square dance, and various local events including a desert trail museum visit and La Fiesta de los Vaqueros activities at the rodeo grounds and Tucson Bridge Club.
