Film and TV sidekick Andy Devine dies in California
Andy Devine, the gravel voiced companion of Wild Bill Hickok, died at UC Irvine Medical Center of cardiac arrest. He had leukemia and recently received treatment at California hospitals. Devine, born October 7, 1905, in Flagstaff, built a career as a film and TV actor, later appearing on Jack Benny radio and Wild Bill Hickok. He and his wife Dorothy lived in Van Nuys for years, later Newport Beach, and are survived by two sons Tad and Denny.
