Washington news details Truman potential mediation between mobil panners and labor unions AFL CIO and railroad unions wrenching at the defense program. A Tucson board meeting notes abandoned streets and roads planning while USPC labor members clash over wage raise and board composition, risking strikes and defense disruption.
Washington reports the Air Force will suspend involuntary recalls affecting about 18 000 airmen due to higher volumes of voluntary reenlistments. The move pauses new recalls for officer and reserve personnel while existing orders remain under review.
Polling places will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Tucson residents in tomorrow's primary. Ward 1 Roosevelt school cafe, Helen street entrance. Richard Harless, former Arizona congressman, returns to Washington as legislative director for the Atlantic Union committee. The group seeks to urge Truman to convene a meeting of democratic nations to form a permanent anti communism alliance. About 29 senators back the plan and Harless says a working Senate majority exists. He notes roughly 100 House members are in writing in support. Several Arizonans listed in the Atlantic Union set up, including Herbert Agar, Bishop A. B. Kinsolving, H. A. Hammond, Dick Jenkins, Mrs. Fred Patterson, and William Phillips.
In Brussels on February 19, about seventy thousand Belgian miners ended a week-long strike after securing a four percent wage increase retroactive to January 1. The new minimum wage rises to 3.3 cents per hour and supporters hail the outcome as a victory in labor negotiations.
Washington reports 136 additional casualties in Korea in the 230th list. The tally includes 28 dead 95 wounded seven injured and six missing as identified by the Defense Department.
Positive identification linked the Tucson bank bandit to the Southern Arizona Bank and Trust Co. he used aliases such as Edward Barron and William Roy Miller. Police traced his loot through nickels and ten dollar bills, with witnesses and a Daily Citizen report aiding the case. Miller remains at large.
In Baltimore on February 19 Col. Laurence A. Potter reported 98 percent of wounded American soldiers treated in Korea recover, higher than World War II’s 96 percent and World War I’s 92 percent. He noted frostbite risks and that 90 percent of frostbite cases are treated locally with only 10 percent evacuated to the United States. He spoke to reserve medical officers from Maryland West Virginia Delaware and the District of Columbia.

President Truman affirmed Gen Arthur's authority as UN forces crossed the 38th parallel last fall.
