A 35th annual fiddlers contest at Armory Park attracted 2 006 enthusiasts. The event featured fiddling acts as social issues and business growth promotion intersect in local planning discussions. Stock markets were closed for George Washington's birthday holiday.
Snow storms plowed through the Southwest with up to five inches in parts of Arizona. Tucson saw scattered showers and a promise of 60 degree warmth tomorrow as clearing skies move in. Roads remain icy in some areas with school closures noted in Continental and Oracle.

President Ford weighs a European tour in April visiting Great Britain France and West Germany and has accepted Yugoslav President Tito's invitation. He also plans a China visit in October or November and unveils a Washington birthday medal at a Masonic temple. Ford, a 33rd degree Mason, launches a face to face campaign and invites the Senate Republican steering committee to dinner.
The Comprehensive Plan ning Process urges creation of neighborhood human resource service centers for health welfare and recreation in Tucson South Tucson and Pima County. It outlines eight needs health drug abuse education youth aging and leisure and calls for a social planning staff to assess quality of life and social needs.
Gunar Penikis of Ross River Yukon Territory says a man registered as Samuel Goldstein at the Hilton Inn robbed him of rubies emeralds and topazes worth 100000 during a commercial gem show. He was pistol whipped tied and left as the suspect fled the room. Penikis treated for minor head injuries. He would not comment to police.
