Grand Central Aircraft Co. won contracts totaling over 22 million dollars from the U.S. Air Force for B-29 reconditioning at its Tucson plant. The package includes 19.22 million for de cocooning and reconditioning B 20 Superfortresses at Davis-Monthan, 2.835 million for overhaul and repair of B-29 spare parts, and an additional 6 million previously awarded for the Tucson project. William B. Birren, Grand Central Tucson manager, said parts will be shipped nationwide by rail and truck.
Chicago boxing note reports middleweight champion Jake La Motta weighed 160 pounds, meeting the title defense limit against Sugar Ray Robinson at Chicago Stadium. Robinson tipped the scales at 155 1/2 pounds at the official weigh in.
