1969 Youth Work Campaign Begins in April Kickoff

More than 3,000 Tucson businessmen will be contacted for the 1969 Summer Jobs for Youth Campaign coordinator Robert W. Heyer said at a Pioneer International Hotel breakfast. The April kickoff aims to place youths, especially the disadvantaged, in government, business and private jobs with strong community support.

TWA Provides Rescue Service for Liberator Bomber

The 9428th Air Reserve Squadron plans to fly a B24 Liberator from India to Tucson. TWA pledges free maintenance between Bombay and Madrid to rescue the mission. Lt Col Rhodes Arnold calls it a morale boost while the Indian government offers the aircraft free if flown at crew’s expense. The unit aims to have a crew in India by March 7 to retrieve the bomber.

Zoning Board Considers Two North Side Rezoning Proposals

The City Planning and Zoning Commission will hear two North Side rezoning requests for apartment development at tomorrow's 9 a.m. meeting in the City Council chambers. The first is Maria Luisa Percy at the northwest corner of E Helen Street and Vine Avenue. The second is Dr. Ronald E. Dennis and others at the northwest corner of N Campbell Avenue and Allen Road. The panel will also review the final Earthstone Hills area annexation plan as routine business.

Southern Pacific Increases Capital Stock Authorization

In San Francisco stockholders of Southern Pacific Co. approved increasing authorized capital stock from 35,667,108 to 90 million common shares without par value and 10 million preferred shares without par value. Chairman D. J. Russell said no new common shares will be issued now. The company has 27,141,366 shares outstanding.

Keith Brown Honored For GOP Work At Lincoln Day Dinner

Keith Brown, former Sahuarita resident and state Republican Central Committee chair, received the Art Wales Memorial Award at the Lincoln Day dinner at the University of Arizona.
