Rep James W Wadsworth and Sen Warren Austin would require 18 to 50 year olds to take any task assigned by the government. Soldier Montara Purtyman Wins Silver Star in New Guinea Fight
Sergeant Montara C. Purtyman of Silona Arizona received the Silver Star for gallantry in the Papuan campaign in New Guinea. He led a squad under heavy fire to within five yards of an enemy pillbox, hurled a hand grenade after his rifle jammed, killing a Japanese soldier and destroying the weapon. He moved forward with utter disregard for personal safety. The award was presented by Lieutenant General Robert L. Hichelberger.

Dutch Nazi Legion Commander Is Shot
Lieut. Gen. Hendrik Alexander Sayffardt, 70, head of the Dutch Nazi region, was fatally shot in front of his home late Friday. The broadcast said Seyffardt fired Saturday.
