Tucson Man Killed by Semi Truck West of Benson

Tucsonian C. Vergil Brooks aged 50 of 1541 Hegel Sn was killed when he darted into the path of an eastbound semi truck five miles west of Benson on the Benson Highway in Cochise County Arizona. The truck driven by Barto Shelley 23 of Siloam Springs Ark swerved left to avoid him but struck Brooks at 1 35 a.m.

Teen Passes Out After Drinking In Sabino Canyon Car

A 13-year-old Tucson girl was found unconscious in a parked car in Sabino Canyon at 12:45 a.m. She later recovered at Pima County Hospital where she remained stuporous. A 22-year-old Tucson man, John Moody, was booked on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A second 19-year-old, William Newman, was arrested for illegal consumption of spirituous liquor. A second 13-year-old girl in the car had not been drinking and was detained at the juvenile home.

Jury Hears Tabor In Steel Probe

George E. Tabor the former city auto shop supervisor was the first witness as the Pima County Grand Jury resumed its probe into the 1957 58 steel purchases. Administrative assistant N A Gonzales Jr followed. Clarence Nelson of Comstock Steel Inc was subpoenaed for afternoon testimony. County Attorney Harry Acker man cautioned the day would be dull yet exciting for investigators. Bray had testified earlier in the probe into the $45 967 steel purchases.
