A group of representative Arizona cattlemen will brief President Eisenhower on the drought problem after his January 14 arrival in Tucson. Senator Barry Goldwater said the president will stay overnight at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and have a breakfast with about a dozen Arizona cattlemen chosen by Charles Pickrell of the University of Arizona Agricultural Extension Service.

Social Security Tax Hike Hits 55 Million Workers

Tomorrow the Social Security tax rises for over 55 million workers and 5 million employers. Armed forces will start deductions for 2.8 million servicemen. Contributions rise from 2 to 2.44 percent on the first 4,200 of earnings, with self-employed at 3 percent.

Visitor Dies After Car Hits Culvert in Pima County

John Ben Castleberry Jr., 39, of Wellington Texas, a visitor to Tucson, died an hour after a one car crash on Florence Highway. He failed to negotiate a curve and hit a culvert, the car flipping 52 feet. He died of a crushed chest at St Marys Hospital. Castleberry was visiting the Fitchett family and had planned to enroll at the University of Arizona or ASU Tempe. He is survived by his father, a brother and a sister. His body was taken to Reilly Mortuary and will be sent to Texas.

Fifteen Die In Plane Crash At Dhahran Airfield

A U S Air Force Superconstellation crashed in heavy fog at Dhahran Saudi Arabia killing fifteen aboard. McGuire AFB and Charleston AFB tallied 11 and 3 confirmed dead respectively with multiple injuries and missing crew members. Surviving crew included pilots and navigators from Charleston and Teheran observer among the listed.
