Speculator Almost Buys Carson Junior High Site

A private speculator bid $30,740 on the 20 acre Carson Junior High site at E Stella and E Pantano roads but withdrew after a conference with District 1. The district, which had leased the land from the state for 10 years, secured the purchase to avoid higher costs and condemnation. The bidder, Anthony Stromei, expressed disappointment but accepted the district’s process and noted no intent to deprive schools. Cooper said open auction remains required by state law and that the district saved $15,000 to $20,000 by acting now.
