Reduction In Gasoline Use Now Expected
Washington dispatch reports government petroleum experts foresee a 5 percent drop in 1942 civilian gasoline use due to new tire and inner tube restrictions. Officials say motorists will conserve tires and fuel for essential trips, delaying direct consumer gasoline rationing while wartime transport needs grow. The Petroleum Coordinator, under Secretary Ickes, prepared a consumer rationing plan for emergencies, details undisclosed.
