Legislature Urged To Fund Kindergartens In Arizona
After a year long study, the Arizona League for the Public Schools urges the legislature to fund kindergartens. The ALPS report says current 13 percent enrollment could rise to 60 percent in 1967 and 80 percent by the second year with state aid, costing about 2.9 million dollars first year and roughly 4 million later. It notes recent court rulings allow state aid for beginning first grade programs and cites expected district contributions. Dr. Thomas R. Navin leads ALPS with ties to Tucson business and the Pima County Junior College Board.
