Indonesians protest 7th Fleet intervention outside U S embassy
About 500 Indonesians demonstrated outside the U S embassy in Jakarta against plans to send ships of the 7th Fleet into the Indian Ocean. Police posted around the embassy. shots were fired to disperse the crowd with no injuries reported. President Sukarno accused the United States of planning a broader fleet presence.

The Arizona Wholesale Beer and Liquor Association distributed $8875 in Christmas gifts to 10 Tucson area charities and 41 statewide groups. The Pima County Association for Mental Health received a major share while others including the Pima County Hospital Development Association and Tucson Child Guidance Clinic got smaller sums. The program has benefited state charities by more than $64,000 since its inception.

Benson Annexation Ruled Legal by Arizona High Court
The Arizona Supreme Court reversed an earlier ruling and declared the 1960 Benson annexation legal. It had been deemed illegal due to the absence of a Southern Pacific Railroad representative signature when the ordinance passed. Four justices supported the reversal.
