Taxes Drive 1950 Election Debate On Arizona Tax Plan
The Salt River valley shows growing backing for the Arizona fair tax initiative to appear on the November ballot. The Arizona Education Association opposes the plan but will not mount a direct fight, aiming instead to bolster school funding from 95 dollars per pupil toward 200 dollars. The fair tax would fix all other taxes at three dollars, repeal inventory taxes, and ban excise taxes on manufacturing and wholesaling, with specified shares for state, school, county, and city revenues.
