Studebaker Plant Closes Shocking South Bend Workers
About 6,000 Studebaker employees in South Bend faced sudden job losses as the 61 year old plant halted automobile production. Workers voiced shock and concern about Christmas plans and future prospects while city officials and Indiana leaders vowed to assist displaced workers. The company will keep parts and service flowing through 2,100 dealers and refocus assembly to a small Canadian plant in Hamilton, Ontario. Edmund Burlingame, president, called the move a realistic solution amid ongoing issues.

A Stock Opinion Dispute and Commission Confusion
Two investors argue whether a stock at about $12 is in an accumulative stage or being unloaded. The column explains it's impossible to know without the buyers and sellers, urges judging by fundamentals, and notes that price theories are unreliable. A reader asks about a $21,625 purchase and broker commissions. The answer confirms a minimum commission applies, with 1 percent plus 7 dollars per 100 shares, and clarifies round lots.
