Seiberling Negotiating To Sell Tire Division
AKRON Ohio Seiberling Rubber Co says it is negotiating to sell its tire division which has lost money for years. The buyer is unnamed and the deal would be for cash with other divisions not part of the transaction. Regulation and stockholder approval are required before a meeting is held. The cash would fund remaining divisions and cut debt. The plan envisions selling the tire division as a package and may involve modernization of Barberton facilities. Edward C Lamb supports the move.

Stock splits and dividends lift value says columnist
William A Doyle explains that stock splits by themselves have no real value but can raise attention and share price. He notes Public Service Electric amp Gas did not raise its dividend at split but later increased to 34 cents per share, with dividends rising for five consecutive years. He urges holders not to sneer at Peg and expects higher income from continued increases. A reader asks about odd lot fees and Doyle says switching brokers is reasonable if service fails. minimum commissions can be surpassed by extra charges, and the broker may have charged more than the standard fee.
