Coast Housewives Warned as Meat Strike Grips LA
In Los Angeles a three month meat strike looms as AFL CIO Meat Cutters Local 421 pickets four Thriftimart and Shoppers stores with about 100 members. Employers threaten layoffs of over 12 000 meatcutters not on strike while talks hinge on wage offers of 52 cents an hour versus 37 cents. Independent markets stay open and related earlier strikes loom in memory.
