In Eloy Arizona 400 voters choose whether to become a city as state officials threaten action over lawlessness. The town famed as a wild west hub hosts bars gambling coffee trucks and transient workers while a past postmaster shooting haunts memories.

City council voted unanimously against accepting a federal offer to transfer three temporary public housing projects in Tucson. Housing Director Walsh urged acceptance, proposing immediate sale of unoccupied trailers and possible dismantling of others for city revenue.
Rubenstein Construction Co will begin within two weeks a 4 million dollar housing complex at Williams Air Force Base. The 75 year lease with the air force covers 500 rental units for enlisted men and officers.
KTUC Tucson loses its CBS network contract in a state wide shuffle affecting KOPO and KSUN joining Mutual with KOOL owner Gene Autry prompting the moves. KVOA remains unaffected as KTUC negotiates with Mutual and KOY squares off in a Chicago suit over the changes.
In Chester Pennsylvania Ronald Clemens, age four, lit a match while searching for Santa causing a bedroom closet fire that destroyed all Christmas presents hidden for five children. Ronald’s mother Helen and firemen contained the blaze as Daniel Clemens, father, faces potential job furlough.
Angus Ward announced that he and about 23 consulate staff and dependents expelled by the Communists will board a train for the 700 mile trek to Tientsin. The group plans to leave Mukden at 3 45 a m and proceed as a U S ship Lakeland Victory is expected to carry them from Tientsin.
Singapore hospital reported the condition of Sarawak governor Duncan Stewart, 45, improved after he was stabbed in the abdomen by a 1 1/2 year old Malay schoolboy with a native dagger during a visit to a jungle village in inner Sarawak.
Florence December reports the final county board exonerated H. V. Kerrick Eloy justice of the peace of charges tied to a fund shortage. Board chair Joe Spray said a resignation by Kerrick would be acted on later. replacement for the Eloy post to be discussed.
Four seamen were arrested after a shipboard uprising on the American freighter Nathaniel B. Palmer in New York harbor. Captain Victor G. Diaz was defending himself when a revolver discharged injuring radio officer William Belazanow. Police, coast guard, and FBI swarmed the scene as the ship docked.
State Auditor Ann Frohmiller will review all state department budgets after Jan 1 1950 per Gov Dan E Garvey. Results may trigger a special spring legislature session. The state hospital for the insane and the welfare department warn of critical finances by April 1950. Hospital payrolls may need funds after Apr 15 and welfare aid cuts could hit old age and dependent children programs.
Tucson observers will mark Pearl Harbor Day in quiet fashion with no public memorial services scheduled. Local veterans groups report no plans beyond routine meetings already on their calendars.
Eloy girl Esperante Beltran, 14, returned home unharmed after a statewide search for three men who allegedly abducted her near Eloy. Sheriff Lynn Earley said she went for a ride with at least one relative and offered no further details on the reappearance.
