The cold spell extends for several days as a new cold air mass nears Monday night. Lows reached 28 on Monday and 23 on Sunday, the lowest date reading since 1909. November tied as the coolest month since 1922 with 53.6 mean degrees. 25 sunny days, 20 mph winds, 26 dust storms, and only .06 inch of rainfall on Nov 26.

German Electric Workers Strike Threat in Soviet Sector

About 5,000 Bewag workers in the Soviet sector planned to strike in protest against Russian police methods after an 87 percent anti Communist vote in western Berlin municipal elections. Unofficial tallies suggested near 1.4 million Germans voted Sunday as SPD won a large majority. Police reported 73 Communist arrests during voting and two Soviet soldiers entered a polling place in the British sector.

6000 Chinese Killed In Manchurian Ship Disaster

A belated report says about 6,000 Chinese died in an explosion and sinking of a crowded evacua tion ship off southern Manchuria. The toll, combined with a prior Shanghai near-miss, could reach 9,200 casualties in two related disasters aboard the Kiangya. Bodies recovered and officials speculate a mine rather than a timed bomb caused the damage.

Tom Hamilton Accepts Pitt Athletic Director Post
