Auburn to fight desegregation after court setback
Auburn University will continue the legal battle to halt desegregation despite a federal appeals court denial of delay in admitting a Negro student. Harold J. Franklin, 30, a Montgomery resident and Alabama State graduate, may enroll for the winter quarter, potentially becoming Auburn’s first Black student. The university plans orderly admission if the appeal fails and has urged restraint to avoid further racial tensions.
