UA provides rapid Jupiter photo service for Pioneer 10 flyby
California scientists monitor the Pioneer 10 flyby of Jupiter with a half day photo service from the University of Arizona optical science center. Images 620 million miles away are transmitted to UA, converted to photographs, and returned to NASA Ames. Mrs. Georgeana Best leads the software team correcting distortions. The 570 pound craft passed its nearest point to Jupiter at 7:25 p.m. Tucson time.
