Two East German Guards Attempt Berlin Wall Escape
Two East German border guards tried to flee to West Berlin but were spotted by fellow guards near the northern border fortifications. They opened fire with submachine guns, prompting 30 guards to respond and local police along with French gendarmes to assist as tear gas grenades were used to obscure the view. one captive was carried away injured and the other was led off.

Thurmond to Undergo Gall Bladder Surgery Saturday
