Lumet Hospitalized After Overdose Claim Denied
Director Sidney Lumet was hospitalized after police said he overdosed on pills, though Lumet denied the report saying it involved seven vodka drinks a Miltown and idiocy. He told the Associated Press from St Vincent's Hospital and said the 100 sleeping pills in his apartment remained unopened. A friend Gaile Jones, daughter of Lena Horne, notified police after Lumet phoned her claiming he had taken pills. Officers arrived via a fire department ladder and Lumet blamed a four day fight in his movie business for the turmoil.
