Meredith Absolved In University of Mississippi case
A four member subcommittee of the State College Board found no grounds to expel James H. Meredith from the University of Mississippi. The full board planned to review the report as Meredith, a Negro, was set to graduate Sunday amid rioting last fall. Governor Barnett urged the board to delay and for the college to withhold his diploma pending investigation.

BLM Seeks to Revoke Smoky No 1 Gold Claim near Parker
The Bureau of Land Management moves to dislodge eight Parker residents from Smoky No 1, a 160 acre placer claim in a 15,000 acre proposed town site two miles east of Parker. Filed in March by eight individuals, the claim is challenged as non mineral and with no mineral discovery. A hearing noted potential mineral evidence, and the BLM will revoke if no answer arrives within 30 days after the fifth publication.
