Warm weather targets Arizona and much of the nation while cooler air arrives in the northern Plains. Showers are forecast for the upper Great Lakes and parts of the Midwest, bringing unsettled conditions.

A 13 year old Nazi prison guard in the United States has surfaced as a war crimes figure. Hermine Ryan previously lived as a quiet New York City housewife for a decade before authorities aired her alleged murders and tortures in Nazi prisons. She faces life in a West German prison and possible Polish death penalty charges. An extradition warrant to Germany was signed by Secretary of State William Rogers last month. Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell denied a stay of extradition on July 25.
The United States began deportation hearings against Mrs. Ryan in 1971 amid claims by former camp inmates that she served as a guard supervisor at Ravensbruck in 1939 and later at Majdanek in Poland. The case notes her 1981 U S entry after marrying Russell Ryan and settlement in Queens New York.
Congressman Guin McKay proposes a bill to end federal aid to Page Arizona from the Upper Colorado River Storage Project. The measure would allow Page to incorporate, transfer 31 lands, grant 3000 acre feet of water for a city of 100,000 and fund initial municipal government.
