Phoenix dispatch reports Gov Dan E Garvey accusing the state welfare office of mismanagement after a two day review of the department led by Harry W Hill into a reported 421000 surplus. The remarks came as he pledged an overhaul of administration amid ongoing scrutiny.

A Phoenix city employee, Louis C. Bledsoe admitted committing 78 burglaries in Tucson over nine months, with Porter’s store burglary on June 19 key to the sentence. Loot valued at thousands was recovered after his arrest June 22 on Mt. Lemmon and subsequent searches.
