Washington April 23 officials announced Britain’s De Havilland Comet jet airliner. The D H 106 will carry 36 passengers at 500 miles an hour at 40 000 feet with first flight expected this year and commercial service planned in 1952.
Harvey Moore, a British lawyer addressing a Communist backed world peace meeting in Paris, criticized both sides for war in China while urging genuine peace. Delegates remained mostly silent as Moore pressed questions about support for war and democracy.
A coroner's jury in Eloy on April 23 ruled death by unavoidable accident in the highway fatality of Clyde A. Mayhew, 33, exonerating Tucson driver Lee Breland. Patrolman Bert Babb testified as the principal witness. Mayhew died from multiple head and internal injuries after being struck walking in front of Breland's car on Highway 84. Breland was not held. the hearing followed by Mayhew's wife and attorney Charles Conner present.
An inquest into a highway crash killing three men was halted when a key witness, Charles Pugh, was not subpoenaed. The crash involved a 1948 Cadillac driven by Farley Hennessey and a 1934 Ford truck. Five in the truck and others in the county hospital were injured.
As the clock springs forward at 2 a.m. Sunday, Tucson faces minimal DST disruption with American Airlines updating its schedule and radio stations changing only one program. The United States Britain and France offered broader self governing powers to western Germany to kick start a federal state. Ambassdor Murphy travels to Frankfurt for a key Bonn meeting as Germany’s Social Democratic party demands tighter controls on finances. Schuman hints at possible four power talks and a dual state idea while western powers proceed with plans for the western zones. The move aims to avert a Soviet backed setback in Germany.
Arizona mineral resources chief Charles Dunning reported a new high grade uranium deposit in Pima county near the Mexican border. Samples run about five percent uranium in natural form and could concentrate above twenty percent. The Kid Sample mine near Papago Well, west of Papago Indian reservation, is the discovery site with ore linked to pitchblende in pegmatite.

Mrs Lula Trulove 65 of Lowell died Friday night at Copper Queen hospital after a brief illness. A Bisbee resident since 1907 she came on the first passenger train to arrive here. She was a native of Elgin Texas and leaves a husband three daughters a son two brothers and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Federal Reserve Board announced a second easing of credit controls in less than two months. Effective April 27, installment terms will extend to 24 months for purchases such as cars and appliances, with downpayments lowered to 10 percent for most items. Exemptions cover goods under $100.
Reports from Shanghai describe Communist forces crossing the Yangtze and advancing on Nanking while Nationalist defenses collapse north of the city. British vessels including the Amethyst and Sunderland suffer damage as naval actions and evacuations unfold. casualties rise aboard the Amethyst, London, and Consort.
Robert C. Harper, 30, of Nogales Arizona was killed near Concordia Kansas after a sleeper cab truck he rode in swerved off U S Highway 81. Driver Joe H. Dawson of Nogales escaped unharmed. The truck owned by Mexican Produce Co of Nogales.
Partial results show Gonzales was the sole council member defeated while Contreras, Gilbert's proprietor, led write-ins. Voter turnout was 206 of 617 with mixed Democratic and Republican ballots reported and several candidates receiving scattered support.
