Endurance Fliers Depart For Record Flight
Bill Barris and Dick Riedel in the Sunkist Lady left Tucson after 7 am for India California with 642 logged hours in their nonstop transcontinental endurance flight. They expect to reach Fullerton California Monday evening and hope to set a new record over Fullerton by Thursday while continuing for two weeks to build a margin over the 1939 record of 726 hours.

Six Die In South Dakota Church Blast
The St Marys Catholic church in Marion South Dakota was wrecked by a gas explosion blamed on a leaking basement furnace. Six Palm Sunday worshippers died and more than 40 were injured as rescue crews cleared debris. The blast occurred as altar boys lit candles and shattered the church’s roof and walls.

Eleven people were injured in two explosions at the Grand Theater in Canton during a Clark Gable Greer Garson film showing. Three are seriously hurt and six of the injured are women. The blasts occurred on the main floor and the cause was not learned.

Germans Rap Allied Plan Gives Germany Limited Self Rule
Bonn April 11 The western allies offered Germany a treaty returning some self government but Germans say it lacks full freedom. The occupation statute would take effect when a German Republic based in the three western zones is formed perhaps by July 1. Two Women Die After East Speedway Pedestrian Crash
A mother and her daughter died after being struck by a car at East Speedway and North Cherry. William V. McNeal drove east on Speedway and said bright lights and a car cutting in prevented him from seeing the victims. An inquest was set for Monday. both victims to be buried at Holy Hope cemetery following services at All Saints church.

Tragic Drowning of Kathy Fiscus After 54 Hour Search

Rescue Step That Failed in Kathy Fiscus Tragedy
In San Marino California on April 11 the three day rescue of three year old Kathy Fiscus fell unit into a 120 foot abandoned water well. Despite drilling, shoring and careful excavation workers located Kathy at 8 21 p m but announced she was dead at 8 55 p m and her body was brought to the surface at 9 52 p m.
