Report from Sofia notes Bulgarians quitting Kaiser loyalty amid a national draft. Official communications describe assigning 400 men to selective service, with numbers issued to district boards and published by the Senate office building. The process, overseen by Provost Marshal General, aims for rapid distribution and public notification.
Paris dispatch reports that Calgarians requested a meeting to discuss armistice terms and peace prospects. The French commander refused to suspend operations but would host duly qualified delegates of the Hungarian government. Macedonia fronts report over 10 000 prisoners captured and more than 200 guns seized by allied forces. London notes Hungary filed for an armistice with the British government receiving the request.
Haig reports dawn assault on a wide front with heavy reinforcements. Canadian units advance above Canal Du Nord while Americans push along Verdun front. Allied forces claim substantial gains, capturing artillery and prisoners as tanks and air support aid the drive. Edwin L. Haig’s command notes intensifying action and strong enemy resistance in Champagne and northeast of Verdun.
Reports from the Champe front indicate a continued French and American advance under favorable conditions. General Fouraud’s army resumed attacks from positions captured yesterday, with American patrols extending contact and tanks and artillery overcoming late resistance. Berlin transmitted report claims Palearian Premier Malinoff proposed an armistice to the entente without cabinet or king backing. Sofia sources note Bulgarian counter moves and widespread discontent as allied offensives in Macedonia tighten pressures on Sofia and raise fears of a coup or revolution.
London reports that the Serbians have entered Ishtibs and captured key Bulgarian positions as their northward drive continues. A large number of Bulgarians and Germans were captured and war materials seized. British troops on the Macedonian front took the Bulgarian city of Strumitsa, with Serbians now west of the Ishtik Veles road.
Field Marshal Haig reports a wide front attack south of the Sensee River with satisfactory progress. Local operations north of the Sensee and near Arleux, Bassee, and Fleubaix yielded advances and prisoner captures. A new thrust toward Cambrai is said to be progressing satisfactorily.
Phoenix September 27. Attorney General's office holds the 40 day limit for sending certified ballots to absent Arizona soldiers does not bar their vote. Assistant Attorney General F. Reece said soldiers may vote as soon as ballots are printed and mailed. The 40 day limit expired yesterday with two counties lacking primary returns.
