In Chicago on September 22, Northwestern University trustees barred colored girl Isabella Ellis from Chapin Hall dormitory due to mounting white opposition. Ellis, a mulatto from San Antonio, had lived in Capri Hall but was ordered to leave and seek housing off campus.
The grim discovery in Salida Colorado reveals miner James Nowrk dead in his Cameron mountain cabin with a revolver in hand and a bullet wound to the head. Neighbor James Grant forced the door after Nowrk failed to respond, noting Nowrk’s despondency over a failed mining claim sale to promoters who did not secure a patent.

Manila Sept 22 The force under Captain John Fershing Fifteenth Infantry in Mindanao reports limited resistance in Macri country. They have captured several forts killed twenty five Moros and wounded twenty while suffering no American casualties.
Mrs. Julia Manowski of Turpin Street Trenton regained vision after six years of blindness. She briefly gazed on her husband and six children including the youngest born after her illness, then consented to have her eyes bandaged to protect the progress. Her doctors had declared hopeless blindness at a Philadelphia hospital before local treatment offered renewed hope.

It is confirmed two armed guards will continually protect the grave of W. S. Stratton at Evergreen cemetery in Colorado Springs. Guards Comp ton and Shepherd, street car company employees, are armed with revolvers and sawed-off shotguns to ensure security until danger passes.
