Father McKeever of St. Rose of Lima in Newark accuses Newark City Hospital physicians of spying behind patient screens during confessions. Washington date line reports the President dis approves the court martial findings against Captain Jas A Ryan who was tried for administering the water cure to a prisoner and ill treating another by holding him in a water bucket. The Boers sought amnesty grants for widows orphans and maimed burghers immediate POW release equal rights including return to South Africa compensation for losses and payment of war debts. Chamberlain said Britain could not further compensate and the discussion ended amicably with forgiveness and cooperation offered.
President Roosevelt arrived in Washington at 6 30 this morning by the Southern railroad and departed at 8 for New York aboard the Sylph. From New York the President will travel to Oyster Bay aboard the Sylph. During the brief stop, he slept in the depot as White House officials and Secretary Cortelyou talked nearby. The southern journey, nearly complete, covered 1566 miles across the southern states.

The maneuvers cover a field far from the capital with sixty thousand infantry and two hundred artillery pieces in action. At Graff Run on the George Williams farm United States Oil Company well No 1 exploded when a twenty quarter shot of nitroglycerin detonated during blasting. Five men at the rig were knocked down and the rig engine house tanks and several hundred barrels of oil burned. Glass shattered at a boarding house eight miles away and the shock was felt like an earthquake.
