Rev. Abraham Abbott, 77, of Chicago, and Eliza J. Mitchell, 75, of Amity, Ind., wed in Lebanon after secretly meeting in Indianapolis to escape the bride’s children. They were sweethearts before 20 but faced parental opposition, and Abbott’s later marriages ended with tragedy before the elopement. Abbott is a Methodist minister. the bride is wealthy.

Word from Santa Fe that last Thursday on the Mescalero Apache reservation in Otero County an Indian named Machete and Jack Tortier killed the old Apache chief Tabasco. Machete once fired at Maj. W. H. Llewellyn when he was Indian agent at Mescalero but missed. The murderers fled into the mountains.
In Pawnee Oklahoma on May 26 Scott Foster a saloon keeper attacked his barkeeper Smith with a hatchet fatally wounding him. He borrowed a revolver to shoot his wife who fled to a neighbor and then killed himself. Smith died at noon.
A Missouri man followed his wife to a secluded spot in the woods and fatally shot her lover. Police report the suspect confessed after police traced the wife to the rendezvous. The incident prompted a homicide investigation and legal proceedings against the shooter.
William Bradley a farmer fifteen miles south of Rolla shot and killed R T Grisham after discovering his wife with him. Bradley returned home with his wife who alerted neighbors. Coroner held inquest. Bradley bailed $2000 for circuit court appearance.
Frank Plankey, local inventor, lies near death after an airship explosion at McMechin near Belwood. Engineer George Fitzgerald is seriously injured. both were hurled from the airship during a flight witnessed by a large crowd. Plankey vows to try again if life is spared.
In Paducah Kentucky on May 26 a Calloway County man Joe Robertson returns after 32 years away from his wife and family. His wife remarried a neighbor and raised a family. Robertson, old and frail, stays with relatives and offers no explanation for his long absence. The reunion has created a local sensation.
Washington May reports President Roosevelt told several Senators that he would sign the Indian bill after addressing objections. He noted changes in current legislation but pointed to a remaining provision granting Florence Mining prospect one year in Unitah Utah lands, which is expected to be repealed.
