A well dressed man in Toledo May 7 swallows diamonds while fleeing. Frank White of Chicago, born in England, is said to have robbed a wholesale jewelry store, with five gold watches and unset stones later found on him. Detectives recovered more diamonds from his mouth during a police interview. White claims innocence as authorities hold him for further inquiry.
The Cherokee Advocate, the Indians’ only Cherokee language newspaper, has halted printing after fifty years of operation in Tahlequah, Indian Territory. Lack of funds and dwindling circulation under 300 led to discontinuation, risking the demise of Cherokee literacy as schools and youth stop learning the language.
