Washington March 17 The Senate today passed a bill granting a right of way to the Central Arizona Railroad through the San Francisco Mountain forest reserve. The line runs north of Bill Williams Fork to the Colorado River and traverses Northern Arizona timberlands and Johnava County minerals. Its final destination is claimed to be San Diego with route crossing the Colorado yet to be decided.
In Garicktown Mo this afternoon the hearse bearing the body of William Smythe sank while crossing the Little St Francis River. The boat began to sink and the hearse tipped bottom side up, the horses had to be unhitched and the body remained underwater about two hours.
A New York court case alleges a long running stock swindle involving Horseshoe Copper Mining Company. Investors claim officers I L Qualey and Frank S Weller were arrested on grand larceny along with F H Clark and Fred Herbert. Bail set at 1500 dollars each.

In Denver on March 17 a 12 month old child of Gustave Brown, a traveling salesman, died after a large cat inhaled the infant's breath while in a carriage at the Brown residence. Doctor Waxhaw arrived too late to save the child's life and attributes the death to the cat.
