Sheriff Del Lewis of Cochise County Arizona recaptured John Conchin near El Paso after a long pursuit. In Nauvoo Illinois on a June night, Celia Farrell formerly Sister Beatrice of the St Benedictine Order married Robert Vogt of Fort Madison Iowa. She had left the religious life after obtaining papal dispensation and then worked as a music teacher in New York before returning to Nauvoo for the ceremony.
Eight young men bathing at Beaver Brook in Wilkes Barre were kept in the water for two hours as a mad Newfoundland dog snarled and prevented their escape. Two men with guns finally arrived and killed the animal, ending the danger.

Nine shots fired into a Mormon meeting in Graves county injure Hardy Lamb in the knee and burn powder on a female worshiper. John Hamilton and Claude Carson, Mormon leaders, fired back without effect. The violence follows earlier arson of Davis Chapel, with continued efforts to hold meetings amid threats of more bloodshed.
