Anxiety rose among San Francisco attorneys as pencil deeds securing two Craven property titles vanished from the county clerk’s office. Lloyd ad Heggerty and others traced custody through Judge Slack’s trial, with Chief Clerk French saying the strong box was never unlocked. The box was broken open but the deeds were still missing, deepening the mystery.

North Chulla governor cites 18 districts totaling 41,358 starving. A family killed and ate two young children amid widespread crop failures and light rains.
The Whatcom County jury found Toho Dix guilty of larceny by embezzlement for wrecking two banks. The offense carries a maximum ten-year prison term. Dix, arrested in London four months ago, was extradited after resistance.

In Burlington New Jersey Miss Viola Allen daughter of Ridgeway Allen was fatally shot by Harry Elsey who fired at a tramp cat. The bullet struck Miss Allen by a wood near City Park while she stood beside the brush. A coroner will determine the cause of death. Miss Allen, about to be married, died at her home after the incident.
Seventeen Republican Senators met in Senator Elkins room and formed an insurgent movement against Cuban reciprocity legislation. Nineteen insiders, including Wellington and Simon, are aligned with the rebels. Duluth Minn June 7 The whaleback steamer Thomas Wilson bound for Duluth was cut almost in two by the steamer George Hadley a mile south of the Duluth canal. Nine men mainly night crew perished as both vessels sank in shallow water. The Hadley’s steering gear was out of order and both ships were loaded with ore.
Seventeen ex volunteer soldiers under sentence at Alcatraz island are to be released today after US courts ruled volunteers cannot be tried by officers of other services. The decision, affirmed by the Supreme Court, triggers mass clemency and police watchfulness for desertion cases tied to the Philippines conflict. In Los Angeles a Santa Fe railroad strike spreads, with boiler makers at Needles and Winslow demanding higher wages. San Bernardino and Needles shops close as lockout continues, while the car department runs as usual.
