220 Sister Cities Open 14th Meeting in Tucson

About 400 delegates and spouses from 240 US and Mexican communities began four days of meetings and events at the Marriott to formalize plans for commemorative stamps medallions and expanded sister city exchanges. The gathering includes city officials and aims to urge joint stamp issuance. Activities include tennis golf receptions rodeo fiesta and a closing banquet at the Community Center.

Millionaire Lottery Winner Still Collects Unemployment

Gary Lashomb, a 41 year old from Potsdam New York who won the state lottery jackpot of 1,000 a week for life, now receives two unemployment checks weekly. One is tax free for 90 and the other is just over 600 from his lottery winnings after taxes. Lashomb was laid off from a supermarket produce manager job four weeks ago following a dispute with management and is reportedly drawing unemployment while his wife and two children live in a modest home after moving from low income housing.

Rocking K investors allege $1.2 million misused in mortgage schemes

Rae files eight lawsuits in Pima County Superior Court accusing Solot Co. and Majestic Mortgage of diverting $1.2 million from investors in Rocking K property funding. Hit run kills girl walking on sidewalk in Tucson

A 17 year old Tucson girl died after a vehicle ran onto the sidewalk, dragged her about 60 feet and fled. Corona Rosies of 8533 E Desert Steppes Drive died at St. Josephs Hospital at 10 05 p.m. The incident occurred on South Sarnoff Drive near East Timrod Street as she walked with her mother Mary Ann, 41. Police described the crash as a hit and run.

1977 Traffic Deaths Rise As Vehicle Hits Pedestrians

Police report a 1977 traffic death incident occurred when a lion left the road and drove up on the sidewalk striking Corena and her mother. Corena suffered severe head injuries while her mother had minor injuries. Witnesses saw two dark Volkswagen cars flee at high speed.
