FDA seeks cease fire in aspirin ad battle

FDA Commissioner Donald Kennedy urged Sterling Drug and Bayer to stop a one sided campaign against Tylenol amid claims that acetaminophen products are no safer than aspirin. He criticized Tylenol for framing the panel report and asked FTC to review ads for fairness and accuracy in the $750 million OTC painkiller market. Tylenol dominates with 21 percent of the market and a $10 million annual ad budget.

Houston Tornado Kills One Injures Dozens

Leatherback Turtles May Get Critical Habitat Protection

The Fish and Wildlife Service weighs designating a Sandy Point Beach stretch in St. Croix as critical habitat for leatherback turtles, the largest reptiles endangered by egg harvest for aphrodisiac use. The area spans a tenth by eight tenths of a mile. 80 nests with about 50 eggs each were found last year.
