Disorder continues at Shenandoah and troops are pressed to stage a show of force as miners seek printer support amid tensions. Officials report rising unrest and the situation remains tense with security measures in place.
Shenandoah reports quiet after midnight as troops quell disturbances caused by striker raids on farms. In Cincinnati, the International Typographical Union closes its forty eighth convention with resolutions denouncing assassination and endorsing union support for the coal strike, including a 2000 dollar treasury gift to Mitchell. A telegram thanks Los Angeles union for aid against the non union Times fraternity printers.
Frank C. Andrews former vice president of City Savings bank was found guilty of misapplying bank funds after a month long trial in Detroit. An appeal will be filed to the Supreme Court and a sixty day stay of proceedings was granted. Andrews remained calm as the verdict was delivered.
In Waterbury on August 16, Alvin Meslin of Plymouta rode a horse that shied near Rattlesnake Hill. The rider fell, landed on a four foot rattlesnake, was bitten on the wrist, and despite quick whisky, physicians fear the outcome. The horse died from the bite.
Topeka reports a dozen Kansas towns struck by a flea epidemic with millions of insects in yards and homes. Drugstores rush chemicals to eastern addresses while local powders fail to deter the pests. The flea is described as small brown and savage, provoking urgent relief efforts.
Washington dispatch reports a shift toward evasion and delay on Cuba. The Treasury notes decline to judge a proposed 35 to 40 million dollar loan while warning Congress may not act until December. Officials signal the White House aims to defer an extra Senate session until the regular term.

He says a sample from the Moyer mine yielded 0.12 oz gold per ton valued at dollars, while other tests show $60 per ton. He conducts experiments without apparatus by powdering ore and using chemicals, positing a liquid form of gold as the source. J S Grimes a mechanic born in Yell County Arkansas unveiled a perpetual motion device at the Kansas City Journal office. The simple twenty year effort uses a two disk setup on a inclined plane that runs for hours without external power. Grimes says a six year hunt to push the carrier wheel over the top of the track unlocked the motion and a company is being formed to commercialize the invention.
In Lewistown Pennsylvania residents claim a red light over graveyards mirrors 1889 flood phenomena. Mrs. Shoemaker first saw it, prompting a vigil by locals who witnessed the light and chants, heightening fear and causing hysteria among townsfolk.
