In a gale at Hilbre and Burbo Bank the steam-tug Eleanor No.3 under William Roberts saved all aboard the General Gascoyne after it was wrecked. The master and crew repeatedly attempted to board, rescued those clinging to the deck, and towed the long boat to safety before bringing everyone ashore in Liverpool.
