Remarkable Hydrophobia Simulated Case at St Thomas Hospital
A twelve year old boy, kicked on the right eye by a horse on July 20, developed hydrophobia like symptoms during recovery. He suffered convulsions, fixed facial muscles, and painful spasms of respiration every ten minutes, with difficulty swallowing. Unlike true hydrophobia or tetanus, there was no fixed neck or back muscle rigidity. He was bled and mercurialised. spasms lessen but coma-like drowsiness and pupil dilation persisted, with greater forehead fullness on the right.
