Court of King's Bench Sittings in Banco

The Justices of Beags grant two rules to show cause why mandamus should not issue to enter into continuations and hear an appeal by Mr Thomas Pratt against the President and Fellows of St Johns College Oxford. The case concerns a Game Act conviction for daytime trespass to shoot a rabbit on land claimed by the college.

Slander case Gunn v Pawee in bail court

Mr Jervis prosecutes for damages over alleged slander by Pawee at the Stork Exchange. On March 12 Pawee shouted you have got a precious thief in your house, leading to the plaintiff receiving a quit notice and loss of bill discounting. Pollock defends, arguing the words did not cause the actions. Jury returned a verdict for the defendant.

Wiseman v Francis Libel Trial at Guildhall

Libel action heard before the Lord Chief Justice at Guildhall following last term. Plaintiff sister of a lady with insanity placed in a private asylum. defendant, a local schoolmistress, wrote a strongly censuring letter about the plaintiff's treatment of her sister. Proceedings focus on the sister’s condition and alleged unkindness.
