Editors Take An Outing To Gilbert Lake Club
About thirty members of the Southern Illinois Editorial Association joined a two day fall outing last Friday and Saturday to Gilbert Lake Club above Alton on the Illinois river. They met in East St Louis and traveled by trolley to Alton where a chartered yacht named Goddess carried them on a fishing trip that proved limited in success. The Call editor won the only fish prize, a gar about 18 inches. Several editors failed to snag even a nibble while P. Preston of Gillespie News boasted the largest catch assortment. Accommodations at Gilbert Lake were superb and a Hardin side trip on the Goddess highlighted the excursion, returning to Alton Saturday night. Notables included George W. Smith, Wm. Smith, H. Childress, A. Vo Booa yew, R. G. Everts, and others.
