Near Million Dollar Rise in Madison County Assessments
Madison County Board of Review clerk J. J. Brenholt Jr released a report Tuesday showing total county assessments increased by 1,858,796 with overall increases of 1,988,370 and deductions of 129,675. Townships posted both increases and decreases, Venice and Godfrey among the largest increases, hampered by four township assessors rating at 100 cents on the dollar and wide reductions to individuals, including Grace Clark of Alton and a Hamel Township case. The Edwardsville Intelligencer notes the boosts largely reflected the Merchants and McKinley bridges payments, while the county faced cutbacks elsewhere and awaits signatures from board members.
