The 1909 Illinois State Fair opens in Springfield on October 1 for a nine day exhibition of agricultural and mechanical prodigies. Space is fully booked as exhibitors seek pens for 2000 animals, new inside track, modern poultry coops, and a $4000 Night Horse Show in the Coliseum. The fair promises unprecedented variety and innovation.
The Illinois Board of Agriculture established a Women’s Building, a 92 by 84 foot structure with verandas and large rooms for female visitors and students. The Domestic Science School houses over 100 young women.
