Rev. H. E. Jay Cooke, rector of St. Stephen's in Schuylerville, collapsed and died of heart disease in the Schenectady railway waiting room Tuesday night. Nephew of Civil War financier Jay Cooke, he had pastored in Cuba Batavia Warsaw and other cities. He likely came to hear Judge Taft, and the excitement is believed to have triggered the fatal attack.
New York inventor A M Herring tested an early aeroplane at Hempstead Plains on Long Island. The craft was heavily damaged and two weeks may be needed for repairs after a 300 foot flight at three feet altitude ended with a turned maneuver failing as parts malfunctioned. Herring escaped injury.
Green River Hot Springs report that Fred W. Kloeber was found lying face down beside a fallen log on Roostercomb Range, about 1.5 miles from where Julius Kumle’s body was located. Authorities say the cause of death was an accidental fall that struck his head on a fir tree, with his gun beneath him and facial injuries indicating a fall in darkness.

Joplin Missouri reports the third day of murder in as many days with two deaths. Alexander Deevers, 36, died from injuries after an attack early Wednesday. W W Bowman and his wife Anna held by police for questioning after Bowman found Deevers wounded in a vacant lot near his home. Deevers left Mrs Rose Adams home at 9 pm to move trunks and died at 5 am.
