Rates to Rise in State Fare Change for Interstate Travel

Beginning next Tuesday December 1 the railroad fare to St Louis over the Pennsylvania Line will be 65 cents one way or 1 30 round trip. The present fare is 60 cents one way or 1 22 round trip. The interstate rate increase follows a battle with the Interstate Commerce Commission over freight and passenger charges. Local state fares to East St Louis and within the state will stay fixed under the two cent rate law, but St Louis in another state is exempt. Collinaville’s postal routes and three delivery system costs are cited, with the Commercial Club planning action aided by lawmakers to resolve the situation and encourage home trade.
