Stearns Body Recovered From Cherry Mine Disaster
The body of J. W. Stearns, among Cherry mine victims, was recovered this week. He was swollen and burned in the explosion, hardly recognizable, and had been a cripple. Stearns lived in Troy until two months ago and was James Evans’s son-in-law, leaving a young wife and child. Relatives hoped he survived. Walter Monroe returned from Cherry to view the scene. A dispute over rebuilding the retaining wall at the red bridge involved Mr. Morriss and city officials, resolved by a new survey showing Morriss was correct. Mountain air failed to cure a longtime cough for Wm. Upchurch, who later died after using Dr. Kings New Discovery, praised for lung ailments. $0.50 and $1.00, trial bottle free, Kingston guarantee.
