Chanler holds a city lead for lieutenant governor, while Bruce edges Hughes upstate. Officials expect Bruce likely elected by around 5,000, with about 20 counties still to report.
Complete Chicago and Cook County returns indicate Republicans won every ticket except three congressmen. D EB Priest and Barnett were elected county commissioner and municipal judge by small pluralities. State ticket carried with a 140000 to 146000 plurality. Legislature will be Republican on joint ballot with 60 seats in the House and 46 in the Senate.
Chicago reports indicate Republicans elected 223 congressmen and Democrats 163, tallying from returns that show Republicans securing a strong majority over the Democrats.
