Putnam Buried After Fast Train Collision
Bits of wreckage marked the westbound No. 29 engine pilot as it struck the Vandalia section crew near St. Jacob. Foreman Harry Sapp led the crew ahead of the train. Hiram Putnam held the handcar and died instantly when the car was struck after a warning to release. Putnam, about 60, had worked 20 years as a section hand and resided in St. Jacob. An inquest ruled accidental death. funeral held at St. Jacob M E church with Rev. J W Britton presiding.

Thomas E File Dies From Cyclone Injuries In Sorento
Thomas E File of Sorento died Sunday afternoon from tetanus caused by injuries suffered in the October 17 cyclone that killed his wife instantly. The couple were swept from their home during the storm, clung together, and were carried away by the winds before being separated by flying debris. Mrs File was found dead.

Troy Man Thomas E File Dies After Illness
Thomas E File of Troy died after a rapid decline from a presumed recovery. Born August 21 1865 near Old Ripley in Bond county he was 40 years old. He married Caroline Bolt in 1886 producing three children Gees Stella and Jessie who died in infancy. His second marriage to Eliza Healey occurred December 25 1898. He is survived by his parents two brothers Fred Ben and John File two grandchildren and many relatives. The funeral was held at Sorento with burial at Sunnyside cemetery.

Death of Former Troy Resident Frances Coleman
Frances Andrews Coleman former Troy resident died Wednesday at the Kansas City home of her son James Potts after a brief illness. Born near Troy to James B. and Elizabeth Andrews she lived here until adulthood then moved to St Louis where she married a Mr Potts. She is survived by six sons two mothers and four sisters. Funeral arrangements were postponed until tomorrow awaiting sons arrival from Seattle and Texas. Burial will be at the Troy city cemetery after a service at the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev James Osborn of the Baptist church.

Funeral of James Willoughby in Collinsville and Troy
The remains of James Willoughby an old Collinsville resident who died Wednesday evening were brought to Troy for burial in the city cemetery. Funeral services were held in Collinsville before the removal and cemetery rites conducted by Rev. Fred Cressey of Jacksonville. He died suddenly at 88 after a hearty supper, leaving a wife and two daughters.

An oil well shooter driving from Casey Illinois to Collinsville carried three hundred quarts of nitro glycerin in a wagon through Troy this week. Residents would have fled if they knew its dangerous cargo, but the driver kept calm claiming the load was cider and feared alarming locals.

Silas Shadwick Jr who left Troy for the west has written that he is now at Long Pine Neb where he has a railroad roundhouse position and expects to stay there indefinitely and has trunk forwarded. Friends in this city have word from Mrs R A Woodward in California that her husband who has been in ill health for some time is very poorly and that on his physician's advice they have left The Palms and gone to Sawtelle. Mrs Woodward was formerly Miss Daisy Risser of Troy.

The October term grand jury returned true and not true bills with indictments for murder, assault, larceny, robbery and liquor selling. Bail amounts ranged from 100 to 700 dollars. Several not true bills were entered in cases of alleged murder and assault. A bank suit over a negotiable note, held by Heilman Machine Co., was ruled defendable despite possession by the bank. A new village petition for South Alton was heard and a special election set for November 18. Condemnation awards were issued in the McKinley electric line case for Lueders and Vorwalds property.
